Training Opportunities

CBTI provides innovative, interactive training opportunities for service providers, youth, and organizations.

Our core training institutes

CBTI offers five core Training Institutes. Using an equitable process, our BPHC and community partners helped develop these institutes.

These multi-session institutes range in length from 12 to 21 hours and are typically held at least once annually. Our trainings are free of charge and open to all providers serving children, youth, adults, and families. They are currently offered virtually until further public health guidance.

  • Trauma, Resilience, and Racial Equity Training Institute for Youth Workers
  • Trauma, Domestic Violence and Resilience Training Institute for Home Visiting and Community-Embedded Providers
  • Trauma and Resilience Training Institute for Early Childcare Providers
  • Vicarious Trauma and Resilience Training Institute for Providers Serving Immigrant and Refugee Communities
  • Promoting Resilience and Health Equity in Boston: An Antiracism Training for Service Providers (co-developed with the Family Justice Center)

Youth Training: We offer workshops and training series for young people ages 13 to 24 around the topics of mental health, wellness, and identity in partnership with youth programs.

Entrenamientos en español: Nuestros talleres sobre trauma y resiliencia para proveedores de cuidado infantil y sobre violencia doméstica están disponibles en español. [Our training offers on trauma and resilience in early childhood and domestic violence is also available in Spanish.]

Organizational Training Partnerships & Training-of-the-Trainer

CBTI also partners with organizations to develop tailored training content for their staff and/or networks. Content is adapted from our core training offerings to meet agency needs and strengths. Formats can include:

  • shorter workshops (90 minute to 4 hours) focused on building awareness of foundational concepts and basic skills
  • longer, multi-session training series (6 hours+) aimed at more advanced or specialized knowledge and building practice skills

To partner with CBTI on an adapted training at your organization, please reach out to a member of our team. We will send you our training intake form. Once completed, our team will review and respond with next steps within 1-3 weeks.

Please note, given the volume of requests we typically require at least six weeks from request to delivery, depending on level of adaptation and team capacity.

CBTI can also work with an agency or a group of individual providers and advocates to build their capacity to facilitate trauma, resilience, and racial equity content within their organization and community.

This can include small group “training-of-the-trainer” sessions on specific curricula (e.g. domestic violence or youth worker training) or a broader leadership accelerator curricula to support skills in both organizational change approaches as well as training facilitation. Please contact us to learn more about these types of opportunities.

Training Outcomes

Pre- and post-survey evaluations of our Training Institutes find an overall positive change in participants’ trauma-informed and equitable knowledge and preparedness following training participation.

In our qualitative evaluations, participants voice not only the knowledge and skills gained, but the sense of community that is built within the training space.

Quotes from recent CBTI training participants

It was helpful to me to better understand how to approach conversations with students in a trauma-informed way - using validating statements, reflective listening, open ended questions (I tend to ask yes/no questions so I'm working on changing this approach). The Culture of Care tool was a great reminder to focus on taking care of myself as I support students and I plan to try to incorporate it into my work.” –High School Teacher, 2020

I didn’t realize how much I needed this training…I felt alone in a lot of the stress and anxiety, particularly in the last 2-3 years. I hope to take what I learned with me and continue spreading the knowledge for others to benefit as well.” – Advocate serving Immigrant and Refugee Communities, 2019

What was most useful to me was [the facilitators] integrating race relations into the conversation around trauma [this] was hugely important and I really appreciated y'alls approach to that.” -Behavioral Health Provider, 2020
