Health Resource Center

The Health Resource Center is a collaboration between the Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Public Schools. The Center provides comprehensive sexual health education and in-school health counseling. The Health Recourse Center provides peer to peer experiences empowering youth to take ownership of their personal health and engage in their communities. The Center also gives referrals and community healthcare resources to high school students.

The Health Resource Center teaches medically accurate, skills focused, evidence-based curricula in and out of school. Our education sessions are interactive with a mix of small group discussions, games, and tools to engage different learning styles. Our out-of-school time programming empowers youth with the tools they need to host peer-to-peer learning sessions in the community related to key content areas.

About Us

Vision: Youth are the experts on their health and are supported in their homes, schools, and communities to eliminate health inequities.

Mission: The Health Resouces Center aims to empower Boston youth to make healthy and responsible choices. We provide health education, counseling, and resources to help youth become advocates for their own health. By working with schools, families, and community members, we strengthen our efforts to support youth.

History

The Health Resource Center is rooted in meeting the needs of youth in Boston. In 2010, a group of youth were supported by the Hyde Square Task Force to create a documentary on youth experiences and thoughts about health education. This highlighted a need for in-school sexual health education and access to services. The documentary caught the attention of Boston’s City Council, which advocated for the creation of an in-school sexual health education program. That program became the Health Resource Center. The Health Resource Center has been serving Boston's public high schools for 13 years. It teaches various topics related to youth, including sexual health and public health. The Center also covers health equity, mental health awareness, and substance use education.
