Improvements To McKinney Playground

McKinney Playground is getting a full renovation! The improvements will feature a new and improved playground, a splash pad, natural turf athletic fields, sports lighting, a perimeter walking loop and much more!

McKinney Playground is a significant recreational resource for the bustling residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Oak Square, Brighton. The park was established in 1930. This beloved space is getting the renovation it deserves!

With the guidance of community input, the Parks Department turned McKinney Playground's 2016 Master Plan into a final Schematic Plan, and then after several more community meetings, into construction documents!  The improvements feature:

• new multi-use fields, sports lighting and other sports amenities
• a playground and a splash pad
• benches, picnic tables, and shade shelters
• basketball and multi-use court
• a perimeter pathway loop
• adult exercise equipment
• renovated entrances
• ecological restoration and invasive species management
• new native tree plantings
• protection of significant existing trees
