Older Americans Act Services Opportunity

Through the Older Americans Act Support and Health Services Grant, the City of Boston’s Age Strong Commission seeks to fund programs that are providing a comprehensive and supportive social service system while promoting longevity and an optimal quality of life for older adults. The goal is to leverage existing community trust and foster a sense of community within each neighborhood. We want to ensure high-quality social programs are accessible to older adults.

About the Grants

Title III B

Funding Source: Federal Older Americans Act Funding Title III B

Total Amount Available: Title III B $1,038,243

  • As mandated by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA), twenty-two percent (22%) of the total Title III-B Support Services must be allocated to legal services programming in the City of Boston. 

Grant Period: October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2026

Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 10, 12 p.m.

With Title III B grants, we aim to fund multiple agencies in Boston to provide supportive services to older adults. The programming may include services, such as:

  • legal assistance
  • friendly visits
  • home repair
  • recreation
  • computer training, and
  • translation/interpretation services.

Title III D

Funding Source: Federal Older Americans Act Funding Title III D

Total Amount Available: Title III D $84,058

Grant Period: October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2026

Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 10, 12 p.m.

With the Title III D grants, we aim to fund multiple agencies to provide evidence based programs to promote health and prevent disease among older adults. For a complete listing of approved programs, review OAA Approved EB Programming

Grant Priorities
  • Support older adult programming in the community at nonprofits through cost reimbursement funding
  • Help older adults maintain independent living in their communities as long as desired through supportive and/or evidence-based programming
Grant Eligibility 

Grant applicants must:

  • Be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization or have an official fiscal sponsor.
  • Work with, or on behalf of older adults in Boston.
  • Be in good financial standing.
  • Have capacity to successfully implement programming that supports social engagement (i.e., number of staff, staff experience, staff time, resources).
  • Be able to comply with the cost-reimbursement process, as is required by these funds. Cost reimbursement requires the grantee to incur allowable program-related costs, then submit thorough invoicing to receive reimbursement for those costs.
  • Be able to meet the 15% matching funds requirement (at least 15% of the program budget must consist of matching funds, which cannot include federal funds).

Age Strong is interested in supporting nonprofits and groups whose work contributes to a more engaged and healthy Boston by building community.
