Tasha Harris
Tasha (she, her) joined the Human Services cabinet in August 2024 as the Equity and Inclusion Manager. In this role, she partners with City colleagues to identify opportunities to boost equity within their respective departments' policies, programs, and operations, all in support of Mayor Wu's vision of providing equitable access to high-quality services for all Boston residents.
After moving to Boston in 2004, Tasha worked in the financial, nonprofit, and higher education sectors for several years, then turned her sights toward K-12 education. Her journey in equity work began while working in MIT's Office of Engineering Outreach Programs (now known as MITES). That experience sparked her interest in working with students of similar backgrounds to ensure they were ready for success.
After earning a Master of Education from UMass-Boston in 2021, Tasha's focus shifted from serving in the classroom to working toward change at the systemic level. She supported the People and Culture team and other organization initiatives at Scratch Foundation, then Onyx Black Wealth Collective's efforts to promote wealth building within the Black community. Her overarching goal is to work towards equity so that everyone (especially people from underserved communities like hers) has the skills and resources needed to pursue the opportunities she hoped for as a kid.
Tasha originally hails from Atlanta, GA, but now calls Jamaica Plain home. She is a loving daughter / sister / aunt / friend who enjoys spending time with loved ones, attending visual and performing arts events, and traveling to learn about and explore different cultures. You can usually find her engrossed in a good book, catching a movie, or being a plant mom in her free time. She is also an admitted serial hobbyist (who will learn how to sew and play guitar someday).
