Albany Street Bike Lanes

We plan to add separated bike lanes to Albany Street in the South End and part of Lower Roxbury.

These bike lanes will connect the South Bay Harbor Trail to destinations and other parts of the bike network in the South End and Lower Roxbury. We will also improve curb ramps and address visibility issues at crosswalks.

The South Bay Harbor Trail is a community-led plan to create a walk- and bike-friendly route between Roxbury and the waterfront. Its route crosses over bridges and under highways, including public and private parcels. Parts of this vision have been realized:

  • the shaded paths along Melnea Cass Boulevard
  • the sidewalks and separated bike lanes on both the West Fourth and Broadway Bridges, and
  • the new paths along Frontage Road and Dorchester Avenue.

Past Updates

Updates

On February 14, we posted flyers on front doors, light poles, and cars on Albany Street between Frontage Road and Northampton Street. We also stopped into businesses to share flyers. Later in February, we mailed postcards to almost 2,000 households on Albany Street and the blocks nearby.

We are evaluating potential accessibility and safety upgrades along the corridor ahead of moving further along with the design process.
