Boston Climate Leader Awards
We're recognizing the businesses, community groups, and individuals taking innovative actions that contribute to Boston's decarbonization, energy transformation, resilience, and waste reduction goals. Nominations are open through March 16, 2026.
Mayor Wu and the City of Boston’s Environment Department are hosting the Boston 2026 Climate Leader Awards to celebrate the businesses, community groups, and individuals leading the charge toward a greener, more sustainable Boston!
Award Categories
The Bright Future Award
Energy
Transforming the energy grid to more renewable sources.
The Clean, Green City Award
Environmental Protection
Working to reduce waste in Boston, and/or working to protect the natural environment.
The Emerald Skyline Award
Buildings
Decarbonizing Boston’s new and existing buildings.
The Resilient Boston Award
Climate Preparedness and Resilience
Working to prepare our City for the impacts of climate change, including sea level rise, severe weather events, and extreme heat.

Research and Innovation
Awardees prioritizing research and inventions that directly contribute to the minimization of climate change.
2026 Nomination Form
People or groups are invited to submit nominations, including self-nominations, by March 16, 2026 at 5:00p.m. ET.
Nominees will be evaluated on criteria including their contribution to improving sustainability in Boston, innovative and creative solutions to combat climate change, benefits to Environmental Justice communities or integration of equity principles, and demonstration of climate goals in the nominee’s work or priorities.
Applications will be reviewed by City of Boston Environment Department staff, and awardees will be announced in early April. More information about the time, location, and logistics of the award ceremony will be shared with this announcement. Please note that 2025 Climate Leader Awards winners are not eligible to reapply this year.
