Patrick Nugent

Mayor's Youth Council Coordinator

Patrick Nugent (he/him) is passionate about helping others and believes youth work is an essential aspect of improving well-being for all. Originally from Highland Mills, New York, Patrick has had an affinity for Boston since growing up through visiting family and friends. Patrick attended Boston College in the Fall of 2019 and has fallen in love with the city ever since. Now residing in the South End, he is proud to call Boston home.

At Boston College, he participated in various extracurricular activities during his 4 years including the Sports Business Society and Student Business Consortium. A graduate of the Carroll School of Management with a B.S. in economics and dual minors in philosophy and Faith, Peace, and Justice, Patrick brings an interdisciplinary approach to helping youth.

He is passionate about increasing awareness and treatment surrounding mental health, which was the focus of his Faith, Peace, and Justice senior thesis. Titled “Prejudicial Disregard for the Poor and Vulnerable,” the thesis analyzed the disparities in treatment for low-income and minority individuals compared to their peers and offered solutions to remedy this injustice. Utilizing his knowledge of moral philosophers such as Kant, he focused on the importance of treating each individual with respect and valuing their autonomy.

Currently, as a Program Coordinator for the Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement (OYEA), he employs the same values when supporting the Mayor’s Youth Council. He is passionate about youth civic engagement and the impact that young leaders can have in their communities. His research on mental health highlighted the importance of having community members and stakeholders be an active part of decision making and help influence the policies that will affect them. He views youth empowerment as a critical way to help support the City of Boston and its residents.

His past experience includes working as a Student Success Coach and later the Manager of Student Success at Digital Ready where he supported students in their STEM pathways through individual coaching, facilitating workshops, and supporting their basic needs. Moreover, he implemented a Student Success curriculum focusing on Social and Emotional Learning and trained three direct reports on learning and implementing this new coaching model.

In his free time, Patrick enjoys working out, reading, and meditating as well as spending time with his friends.
